I am a long-time member of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO). Recently, there was an active discussion on Garage Sales. I am regularly asked about Garage Sales and I’m not a big fan. Having attended my fair share and participated in Flea Markets dating back to the 1980s, I see that most items go for very little. However, I recall fondly the time we participated in the Flea Market on Route 40. We earned enough money to pay for our wedding bands (when the price of gold was waaaaay less). But I digress (again)…

Getting started is probably the biggest obstacle to organizing. Most people have to be in the pits of despair and in total angst to take action. Once you’re ready to take action, sometimes overwhelm causes numbness and immobility. You end up even more distraught and discouraged than before. What’s a person with clutter supposed to do??

Before you quit, think about who may be that calming, supportive person for you. If you come up empty, give us a call. We can help.

If I had $1 for every time I heard someone say they were going to tackle large decluttering/organizing projects on “the next snow day” — I’d have a whole lot of dollars!! 

We actually had a real snow day recently and I wondered who was able to actually tackle long awaited projects. I know that I didn’t have much to show on my snow day other than shoveling!

Before winter ends and before our spring gardeners are off and running, what “something” can you do NOW so that you:

1. feel more comfortable having friends or family over.
2. spend less time feeling guilty about what you “should” be doing.
3. feel proud of yourself.
4. create more peace in your home.

Everyone has a few spots where clutter just seems to accumulate no matter what you do. These locations become a part of your home that we stop noticing after a while. We never get around to organizing these things because they have become part of the landscape. Here are some ideas to tackle those forgotten spots that need organizing.

Jewelry

Most people take good care of their gold jewelry, but also have an assortment of costume jewelry pieces that maybe don’t get the care they need. Necklaces get tangled, earrings are missing backs and some pieces may be in need of repair.
