So you have decided to buy a home and do not know how to begin. As your Realtor, I am committed to helping you set a plan of action and make your purchase a successful one. Here are some tips for what you should do before you start looking for a home to buy.
Whether you are searching for a condo, single family home, townhome, lot and land, new construction or investment property, you need to know where you stand financially.
Take time to speak with a reputable loan officer who should:
- Provide you with a clear picture of the expectations of the process.
- Educate you on the various loan products available and how they may best suit your needs.
- Inform you of any grant programs, home buying classes, or employer matching fund for which you may qualify.
- Counsel you on credit repair and improvement, if necessary.
- Pre-qualify you for a dollar amount at which to begin your search.
I have several reputable lenders with whom I work closely. Getting this out of the way first, ensures a much smoother transaction.
Decide why you want to buy. It is important for me, as your Realtor, to understand the WHY behind your purchase so that I can best serve you throughout your transaction.
Are you:
- Buying a first home and your lease is up in 30 days?
- Moving to a larger home because you want a bigger yard for you dogs?
- Moving to get your kids into a great school district?
- Downsizing because your kids are grown and gone from the nest?
Regardless of the reason, I am committed to making sure the process is as smooth and stress free as possible; therefore before we begin looking at homes, we will meet in person to discuss all of your goals surrounding your move.
What are your wishes, wants and needs? Now that you have determined your price range and why you want to move, it is time to decide what you want, what you need, and what you might wish for if the sky was the limit.
Here are a few things to consider:
- Number of bedrooms / bathrooms
- Detached vs. attached
- Carpet vs. hardwood
- Off street parking
- Proximity to work, school, family and social activities
As your Realtor, I will help refine your choices so that when you are ready to make an offer on your home, you will be certain it is the right one.
Let’s get started!
Once we get started looking at homes, we will move as quickly or slowly as you dictate. In my experience the average home buyer looks at 12 homes over a 12 week period. However, some clients only need to see one home and some need to see 20. Regardless of what your needs are, we are on this journey together. I am with you as your trusted advisor, sounding board, educator and resource before, during and even after your purchase.
